Look beyond the visible front panel
A console in a neat television cabinet can still have poor ventilation. Identify its intake and exhaust positions from the model's instructions, then look at where warm air goes. An open front does not guarantee a useful exit if the back is enclosed or pressed against a wall. Avoid storing controllers, fabric or game boxes against vents.
Sony's PS5 guidance calls for clear space around the console and at least ten centimetres from a wall surface. Use the requirements for your exact console rather than applying that number to every device. Fit the supplied or specified support for its chosen orientation, and keep the unit stable on a firm surface.
Do not stack another warm device directly against it. A receiver, network box and console sharing a confined shelf can warm the same small volume of air. Consider the whole cabinet, not just whether the console physically fits between the shelves.
Respond to noise and warnings differently
Fan noise can rise during demanding games. Note whether it settles after the workload ends and whether the console displays a temperature warning. A louder fan is not by itself proof of a fault, but repeated overheating messages or shutdowns deserve attention.
If a warning appears, stop playing and follow the manufacturer's cooling and placement instructions. Do not cover the console to reduce noise or add an unverified accessory that obstructs its intended airflow. Compare the cabinet placement with a safe open location if the manufacturer permits it, keeping the same game and room conditions as similar as possible.
For cleaning, shut down and disconnect the console as directed. Follow the official procedure for accessible vents and dust removal; do not push tools into the enclosure or apply liquid to electronics. If the noise sounds like mechanical scraping or persists despite correct placement and permitted cleaning, contact support with the model and symptoms. Keep ventilation clear as a normal part of the room layout instead of waiting for the next warning.
